Over the last few weeks, we have started a new writing activity in our house...letter writing. My kids have written to each other, to their grandparents, their parents (me!), close friends, and many others!
The fun part comes when you get that special letter in return. Take the time this summer to put a smile on someone's face. All it takes is a little time, thought, and creativity.
What could you write/draw about? How about:
- fun activities you have been doing
- questions you might have
- arranging a playdate or FaceTime
- things that are new in your life
- things you wish you could do together
- books you have read

Features of a good letter:
- a greeting at the beginning (Example: Hi Mary, Dear Mary, To Mary, etc.)
- the body of the letter - try leaving a line space between different ideas (just like with paragraphs)
- a complimentary close at the end (Example: Love, Lots of love, With thanks, From, etc.)
See example on the left from Reading Rockets.

To avoid the mail, we have taken pictures of handwritten letters and sent them through email and text.
Below are a few books that might inspire your letter writing.
