If you loved Hello Hedgehog, Dragon, and Unicorn and Yeti, Moby Shinobi and Toby Too! Surf's Up is for you! What we love most in my family with Moby Shinobi is his use of Ninja skills and the action-packed pictures to go along with each story. In this story, Moby spends the day at the beach only to find his ninja skills useful to help save a sandcastle contest and rescue a boat among other adventures. It is worth checking out for my K-3 readers! Want to find out what other Acorn readers there are like this, check out the Scholastic Acorn Website. |

As many of you know, I am a big fan of the Scholastic Branches series for young readers. My daughter is in Grade 2 and we are working our way through 'The Owl Diaries' series together and our latest journey with Eva is called Eva and Baby Mo. What I love best about these books are the vibrant colours in the illustrations and the use of speech bubbles to tell the story. When we read, we often take on reading for different characters which makes the book more interactive for all of us. In this adventure, Eva and two of her friends take on babysitting her baby brother Mo. For all of her planning, things of course don't go like planned. Many of us can empathize (understand) how this feels! Currently there are 12 books in the series with a new one set to release in August!

What I love about this book is how Melanie Watt is able to use humour when talking about our fears and how it demonstrates how important taking risks are. Without risks, we will never know what we can do.
